Responsibility Statement

I am Responsible. When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help, I want the hand of A.A. always to be there. And for that: I am responsible.

Anxious About Your First Meeting?

Practically nobody looks forward to going to their first AA meeting. We often hear someone say about their first meeting, "I just didn't get up one morning and decide to go to A.A." The majority of us came reluctantly either because we promised someone else we'd go or a judge, employer, doctor or treatment program made us come. Like any newcomer, no one of us wished to require the help given by A.A. nor did any one of us want to be an alcoholic. In fact it is an act of great courage to walk into an A.A. meeting for the first time.
But when you get to your first meeting you will find people who have the same problems as you do. Alcoholics working with alcoholics is the reason A.A. works. You are not alone. The obvious and best solution to the problem of the normal anxiety and discomfort that is associated with attending your first AA meeting is to go to the meeting with someone who knows the ropes.
If you do not have or know of a friend or acquaintance who happens to be an AA member, call our Hotline number (352) 621-0599 and we will work to find a recovering alcoholic near you to either go with or meet you outside your first meeting.
